I’m going to continue the season sailing wrapup thing after doing that for 2024 as it’s a nice way to keep track of the events we did. I am still contemplating an entire catalogue of events as far back as I can find (via the WAYBACK MACHINE), but that is such a daunting task, I keep putting if off. Anyway, it was a great season and here’s the wrapup:
Cruising in the BVIs: Jan 14-21
Following the delivery of Margalo to the BVIs in November, I had the opportunity to head back in January for a “boys week” of cruising.

Comodoro Rasco: Feb 1-2
Despite challenging and sometimes frustrating sailing conditions, many travelers were just happy to bask in the Miami sunshine, far away from the recent frigid temperatures in the northern parts of the US. We had a TERRIBLE Rasco finishing 28/34.
Midwinters: Feb 7-9
We had a much better Midwinters finishing 10/28. I did a regatta report for snipe.org

Bacardi Invitational: Mar 6-9
Another fun time at the 2025 Bacardi Invitational. We love this event for the “high production value” and the multi class nature which lets us hang out with many friends from the wider sailing community. This year, we had our own circle with three solid days of racing with the first day 15-20+ and very shifty from the NW followed by 2 days of lighter typical Biscayne Bay SE breeze. I think our circle had the most racing and best conditions of the three days. We ended up above the fold at 8th. We were going well, just made too many mistakes that often dropped us out of the “A” group – you can’t get away with mistakes in that crowd! – and 8th was sort of the best of the rest. For the first time, the Snipe Class tested the Vakaros Race Sense system and I believe it was very successful. Definitely still some kinks and policy issues to be worked out and hopefully the cost of such systems will come down, but I think overall a great improvement to race management. Lisa was going to steer, but we switched at the last minute and we ended up 8/16, shocker.

Margalo Delivery from BVIs to Marion: May 1-10
We went direct from Tortola back to Marion for a really nice 9 day trip.

Colonial Cup: May 31-Jun /US Nationals Jun 4-7
We played these two regattas up as a circuit and I called it “Snipe Week” in another post about it. I sailed the Colonial Cup with Jill Bennett in Ugly Betty/29016 and Lisa/Lexi sailed 31313. Jill and I finished 23/48. For the Nationals in Atlanta, I crewed for Lisa and we ended up very respectably at 13/52.

Newport Regatta Jul 12-13
Fun time in Newport for the weekend for the Newport Regatta at Sail Newport. Lisa sailed with Lexi on Saturday (I visited family in New Bedford) and I filled in for Lexi on Sunday. It was a bit lighter than usual without a strong sea breeze, but interesting and difficult sailing. Lisa ended up 14th of 25 and we had the biggest fleet there. Full results and report by Carol Cronin. I hated to make such a quick trip there given the high temp both days was 75 degrees! But we were headed to Japan just a few days later!

Women’s World Championships: Jul 20-26
This was an epic trip to Japan and some wild sailing for Lisa and Lexi. They ended up 6th (the best of the rest) and that was a terrific result. I did an entire post on that trip.

DickC Cup: Aug 2-3
Having just gotten back from Japan a few days earlier, I had a hard time getting my B team program together so I just sailed A for the Summer Series. The fleet website has a great writeup.
Annapolis Snipe Invitational/US Junior Nationals: Aug 16-17
While I obviously couldn’t sail in this U30/Junior event we did a lot of work for it and it was a very successful event. The fleet website has a great writeup and same on snipe.org
Board of Governors Quassy: Aug 23-24
We got in 8 good races and after the first day Lisa and I were leading but had a crappy second day to give up the lead to Steve Callison/Maureen Mitchell and Joel in second, with us a point behind to finish 3/15.
US Masters Nationals: Sep 19-21
So glad we were able to get out to Green Lake for the Masters. It’s a beautiful place and great people. We had 2 days of really nice breeze but sadly not enough to break the tie on the water Sunday. It came down to being in the ideal spot for the last puff on the last beat of the last race to eek out a win by with a tie between us and Henry and Nancy. A big thanks to the Green Lake Fleet for hosting us!

Frigid Digit: Oct 4-5
I never did a regatta report because it wasn’t a huge event, but Lisa and I sailed together and we were 11/20.
Raven Delivery to the Abacos: Nov 3-10
I did not think I’d have any delivery opportunities this fall, but in September Ned Jones a fellow Snipe sailor from the late 90s called looking for crew to take his Outbound 46 to Marsh Harbour in the Abacos. It was a fun trip with a really, really spicy Gulf Stream Crossing: Feast or Famine to the Bahamas.

US Women’s Nationals/Hemisphere Cup: Nov 14-16
This regatta was a Women’s Nationals on steroids (no pun intended) held at the USSC in Miami that attracted a number of international teams. Lisa sailed with Laura Varela and I did RC. They ended up 7/22.

World Masters: Dec 8-13
Wow, what a trip to Chile! I have two posts about this, one for the sailing in Frutillar and one for the hiking in Patagonia!
