Given the remote terrain and former railroads that serviced the coal and timber industries, there are a number of interesting opportunities for off road bikepacking routes. The Erie Canal bike tour in New York State, following the original 1825 route, covered 375 miles in 8 days. The route traversed the Mohawk Valley and the Finger Lakes, offering historical and scenic experiences.
